Terms

These terms cover our online store and the Reading Room. Where they differ, the section for the service you are using applies.

Books and online orders

• Every book is shown with its photos and condition grade, and arrives exactly as described.
• Every book we sell meets our standard for preowned books, and every listed title is shown with its photos and one of four condition grades:
  • New Just bought.
  • As new Read once or not at all.
  • Second love Gently read. Light signs of reading, nothing that gets in the way.
  • Well loved Read and enjoyed. Some wear on the cover or pages, every page intact.
  The grade is guaranteed as described at the time we hand the book to the delivery partner.
• Once shipped, the book is in the delivery partner's care. We aren't responsible for damage, delay or loss in transit, and any claim must be raised directly with them.
• Every book is a single copy. If two orders arrive for the same book, the first confirmed payment gets it. The other reader can choose another book from those listed, or ask for a full refund.
• Mystery books can't be returned or exchanged, even if you've already read the book.
• Book Match picks are chosen by us, based on our curation and anything you share in the form, and can't be returned or exchanged.

The Reading Room

• You agree to our policies. By booking a day pass or membership, you agree to follow the Reading Room’s policies, both the ones on this page and any posted in the room. We may change them online or on site, and the current version applies.
• You follow the host. You agree to follow reasonable requests from the host or staff.
• Reading only. The reading room is for reading, writing and studying in silence. No calls, no videos, no meetings and no chatter. Calls and conversations happen only in the designated zones outside the reading room.
• Eating and drinks. Food and drink stay in the communal eating spaces, not in the reading room. Chai and coffee are served in the break zone.
• Tagged books. Our books are tagged, and small index markers on the shelves say so. Please do not take books with you. If you would like one, ask the host about buying it.
• Bookings. Entry is by prior booking only. Your seat is confirmed once payment is received. The room is open 9am to 6pm, Monday to Sunday.
• Location. We share the area and our WhatsApp number, so you can ask us questions before you book. After payment, we send the exact location link. You may choose to share your contact details through the waitlist form or email us at [email protected]. We are happy to answer any questions you may have.
• Respect the room and your fellow readers. If someone does not follow the policies, we may ask them to leave.
• Passes, memberships and admission. Day passes, memberships and admission to the Reading Room are granted at our discretion.

The Reading Room’s policies apply to everyone who books a seat.
